Michael J. McDermott, Ph.D.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Dr. McDermott earned his B.S. in psychology from the University of Maryland and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Mississippi. He completed his pre-doctoral residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center Consortium.

Dr. McDermott provides evidence-based cognitive and behavioral treatments for a wide range of mental health difficulties, including depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders (i.e., PTSD), physical health conditions such as chronic pain, and substance use disorders. Dr. McDermott specializes in the administration of exposure- and acceptance-based behavioral treatments for anxiety and trauma-related disorders (including prolonged exposure for PTSD) and chronic pain conditions (including migraine and other headache conditions).

Dr. McDermott was previously an associate professor of psychology at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he researched the roles of stress, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders on physical health. In this capacity, he has published research in numerous peer-reviewed psychology and medical journals across the domains of behavioral medicine, substance abuse, and personality, and his publications have been cited over 1,300 times in subsequent peer-reviewed journal publications. Dr. McDermott is currently accepting new patients; all appointments are provided through video telehealth.
